ShufflePicks a new station on its own. The button at the top counts down to the next one, and tuning by hand restarts the clock.

Not sure what something does? How this works is the ? at the top.

How this works

BroadcastZero is a radio, not a playlist. Every station runs on its own clock whether anyone is listening or not, so you land in the middle of whatever is already playing.

Getting started

  • POWER ON starts the set.
  • The plaques along the bottom are the stations. Tap one to tune to it.
  • Digital jumps straight to a station. Analog makes you find it on the dial, and you hear it drift in and out of the noise on the way.

Receivers

  • The radio icon at the top opens 24 sets, digital and analog.
  • The knobs and faders are real: drag one, or hover it and scroll.
  • Each set has its own tone. Some have an EQ, some only a volume wheel.

Shuffle

  • Turns the dial for you: a new station on its own, every 5 minutes unless you change it in Settings (15 seconds is the quickest).
  • The button counts down to the next one, so you always know what is coming.
  • Tuning by hand restarts the clock. A set that is switched off does not count down.

Old school

  • The little computer beside the tuners opens a window of visuals drawn from the sound itself, the way a media player used to do it.
  • ‹ and › step through them. PAL changes the colours. AUTO moves both along on its own.
  • Drag the title bar to move it, the bottom-right corner to size it, and double-click the title bar for full screen.
  • The strip underneath reads the live level in dB.

Visualizer

  • The bars icon opens a smaller side panel: bars, scope or rings.
  • Pick which one in Settings.

Full screen

  • The arrows icon at the top. Works in either orientation.
  • On an iPhone, Safari gives a web page no real full screen. The button gets as close as it can; adding BroadcastZero to your home screen is the only way to lose the browser bar for good.

Sharing

  • The share icon copies a link to the station you are on, never to a song. Whoever opens it tunes to the same station, live, wherever it has got to by then.

If it runs rough

  • Settings → Visual effects → Lite stills the grain and glow, or Off strips them. The scenes stay either way.
  • Settings → Reset preferences puts volume, receiver, station and visualizer back to new. It touches this device only.
